Project ÖKOPROFIT - GfA Contribution to Climate Protection

GfA will participate in the sixth series of the certification project ÖKOPROFIT by the city of Düsseldorf. On 1 September 2016, head of the environmental department Helga Stulgies and the participants set the project in motion.

A total of nine companies from various industries are involved.

Objective of the one-year project funded by North Rhine-Westphalia’s Ministry of the Environment is the identification and activation of existing savings potentials in the area of operational resources and energy efficiency. GfA wants to contribute adequately to climate protection and increase the Company’s own resource productivity at the same time. Another objective is to raise the awareness of the workforce. A GfA team headed by project manager Sabine Holz will address the necessary tasks.

To identify potentials, the actual situation will be analysed in the course of the project through site inspections of the participating companies. Together with the contact partners of the companies, a team of experts then prepares an environmental program including suggestions for improvement. In addition to the on-site appointments, eight relevant workshops will take place during the project period. Not only the knowledge transfer on environmental issues, but also the exchange of experience between the participants is on the agenda.

According to experiences from previous series, the proposed improvements range from modified settings on cooling or heating systems to integral air conditioning concepts for buildings using cutting-edge technologies and components. The 50 participants of the last five project series of ÖKOPROFIT experienced savings of 30.8 million kilowatt hours of energy and thus 13,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide in the first project year. This corresponds to a cost reduction of 2.6 million Euros.

GfA will receive the ÖKOPROFIT certificate upon successful project participation - an important step towards the introduction of an environmental management system according to ISO 14001.
