IN BRIEF – January 2019

GfA Investing in the UK

The decision of GfA Germany to invest in a new purpose-built UK factory is great news for GfA UK and for our customers. With plans to move later in the year the new factory offers many benefits:

  • Ease of access - The new factory is just off junction 15 of the M40 motorway and has 70 car parking spaces
  • Space – 28,000 square feet will enable an increase in stockholding and additional onsite assembly
  • State of the art facilities – for training and customer meetings will enable us to host additional training sessions for your fitters and sales people.

These artist impressions give you a flavour of what’s to come.

Bespoke Control Panels – Customer Problems Solved

Our electrical department regularly provide bespoke solutions to customer’s requirements. Over the years they’ve been tasked with many challenges. These include designing and building a traffic light control system for a car park entrance to control vehicle entrance and exit via a single car width ramp, as well as more recent requests for controls for much larger scale projects.

Customer Service Team Changes

At the end of last year, we welcomed a new Customer Service Manager to GfA UK.  Joanne Dance joined us from a large packaging company where she has worked in a wide range of customer service roles.

Joanne and her team of Diane Heritage, Jasbir Flora and Lee Kelsey will handle day to day customer queries after orders have been placed with our sales department. So, if you have a question about delivery, need to return a product or have a problem with a GfA product they are the people to speak to.

Rachel Collett has an expanded role, overseeing the Customer Service Department and Distribution to ensure delivery of a seamless after-sales service.

Important HSE update for door companies

You’d be forgiven for having missed it but there were a couple of very important points in the recent HSE bulletin concerning revised European Standards BS EN 12453 & BS EN 12604.

There are two important points door installers and manufacturers need to be aware of:
  1. Photo Beams used to control power operated doors – In most circumstances two low level photo beams are required rather than one. Our sales team will therefore quote on this basis, unless you are able to confirm at the quotation stage that a single photo beam can be used in compliance with the standard.
  2. Force limitation testing. The inclusion of a test at 1500mm from the floor, as well as 300mm from the floor, especially on doors with variable speed control which slow down in the final 500mm of closing. GfA high speed drives used with a GfA control panel have the advantage of automatic slowdown as the door approaches the floor.
It’s complicated we know, so we suggest you talk to our Technical Team for advice.  Call 01926 452452 option 2, or email technical@gfa-elektromaten.co.uk.
