Posted 11th August 2021: Electrical Workshop Apprentice

The Company is pleased to be advertising for an Apprentice to train and work in our Electrical Workshop.  

The successful applicant will be trained in depth to assemble electrical panels in accordance with electrical drawings, in house procedures and quality standards relevant to the industry and production work in general and this work will also involve testing the panels and completion of any necessary administration work.  In addition some experience will be gained in fault finding and repairs and providing assistance in a busy warehouse.

 

The apprenticeship will last between 36 and 42 months and during the first 2 years will entail 2 days at our local college per week doing classroom and practical work and then 1 day per week at college and 4 days at work in the 3rd year.  There will be a full time position upon completion of the apprenticeship.  Working hours on the days at work are 7.50am to 4.20pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.

 

The apprentice will be mentored and managed by very experienced and well qualified staff with the apprenticeship scheme being much valued by the Company having had past successes in delivering apprenticeships to a high standard.

 

The apprenticeship is a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship for an Engineering Fitter and leads to the following qualifications:

o   Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering

o   Level 2 Functional Skills In Maths and English if GCSE results in these subjects need to be boosted to a grade C or above level

 

The topics covered by the above qualifications include: Health & Safety in the Engineering Workplace; Mathematics for Engineering Technicians; Mechanical Principles of Engineering Systems; Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis of Engineering Systems; Principles and Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits; Engineering Drawing for Technicians; Engineering Maintenance Procedures and Techniques; Electrical and Electronic Principles in Engineering; Producing components using hand fitting techniques; Maintaining electrical equipment/systems; Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits; Wiring and testing programmable controller based systems.  These technical topics are supplemented by training to support work performance in general with modules focusing on communication skills, working productively and looking ways to improve performance and activities.

 

Applicants must have the desire and ability to perform intricate hands on work accurately in a busy environment and a committed can do approach to the training at work and in college.  Being able to work well in a team and independently is important as well as being computer literate.  These attributes will need to be demonstrated during the interview process through either previous study, hobbies, interests or and any work experience. GCSE’s grade 9-4 (A*-C) in English Language, Mathematics and a Science or equivalent are desirable.
