Technical Team Leader

This job role involves managing the technical team so that their activities are efficiently organized to meet technical requirements on time and within budget.  This includes managing the performance of the team, ensuring they are properly trained, qualified and motivated as individuals to work together to give their best.   The role is hands on providing support and advice to customers directly in response to the daily calls received by the team, sharing the call loads and leading by example in providing customers with a timely, accurate and helpful resolution to their enquiry. It also involves making sure that the sales, customer service and operations teams have the necessary technical information to support the production of quotes, resolve customer problems and make the correct technical purchases. Overseeing the provision of effective and valued technical training to our customers and internally is a key activity including apprenticeship coaching and support. Continuous improvement of the technical service we provide is further priority proposing and implementing relevant change including the provision of a seamless experience for customers who need replacement equipment.  A wider contribution to the success and development of the Company is also expected by championing, supporting and being involved in other projects as required. This all requires the commitment to learn and maintain an up to date knowledge of the products which will involve a detailed 6 month induction phase.


Candidates should have the following experience and attributes: A HNC/equivalent in mechanical engineering to provide the team with professional mechanical engineering experience and balance the expertise we currently have on electrical.  Mechanical engineering experience – a good grounding would include experience in a drawing office, some production experience and some support experience such as repairs or installation. Have some engineering work experience relating to electrical products/machinery.

Formal Team leadership experience including the coaching of staff would be ideal but otherwise informal experience could be considered for candidates showing an aptitude for leading and developing the skills of others. Customer facing, particularly telephone support experience is necessary and the ability to review current procedures and implement effective change.


Technical Support Engineer

This job role involves providing an efficient and courteous technical telephone support to help customers select the right product, to support their installation of the products and diagnosis and resolution of any faults.  Internally it involves providing technical support needed for sales quotations including the selection of equipment and solutions, the checking of quotes requiring technical approval, the resolution of returns issues and support for technical purchases.  When technical problems can’t be fixed through technical help and replacement products are needed quickly the job holder will also produce quotations for these. Recording information about calls and using the relevant admin systems will also help the team identify how to make improvements to the service we offer and highlight technical issues to address.  Learning about and maintaining an up to date knowledge of the products is vital and this will involve a detailed 6 month induction phase.


Candidates will have the technical ability that enables the to problem solve with reference to electrical schematics and troubleshooting manuals. Candidates will also have at least 12 months electrical work experience such as design, repair, installation or production related. This will be supported by relevant qualifications to at least BTEC Level 3 Standard (A level) or additional relevant work experience that indicates the ability to get to grips with out products and provide the technical solutions needed.

Previous customer support experience would be an advantage but otherwise individuals need to have the skills to be articulate and helpful on calls with customers who are often in pressurised situations.
