"By cutting carbon dioxide emissions considerably, the companies have helped the city come a step closer to its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050"...

...,explained Helga Stulgies. "The nine companies together save the atmosphere 636 tons of carbon dioxide a year - a remarkable achievement!"

Closing Event
The ÖKOPROFIT project was successfully completed on 30 November 2017. Besides eight other companies, GfA was honoured for its successful participation in a festive closing event in the Düsseldorf Esprit Arena. Environmental Officer Helga Stulgies and Michael Hermanns, Head of Department of the Ministry for Environment, Agriculture, Nature and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia presented the certificate. This allows GfA to officially wear the ÖKOPROFIT logo.

Savings
The award-winning companies reduced electricity consumption by 1.1 million kilowatt hours per year and heating energy consumption by 86,000 kilowatt hours. Together they saved 200 cubic metres of water and reduced their waste by 45,000 sheets of paper and 1,500 PET bottles.

The contribution of GfA is as follows:

After the project is before the Project
However, successful participation in the project is only a stopover. The following measures are also planned and in implementation:

  • Realisation of the new GfA office building as a passive house with solar energy system
  • Renovation of the existing buildings to become energy-efficient
  • Use of minimum quantity lubrication in machining operations
  • Measures for waste prevention and separation
  • Introduction of an environmental management system according to ISO 14001

GfA also becomes part of the ÖKOPROFIT Club. In three workshops per year and one on-site meeting, the companies continue to work on saving energy, waste, water and wastewater by implementing innovative ideas and measures, actively involving employees and reducing the consumption of resources in a sustainable manner.
